Feb 21, Joshua Hair rated it really liked it. I've been looking forward to this one for awhile.

It's actually been on my list to read for years but I somehow never managed to pick up a copy. Of course, it made it all the better that the good doctor is a Florida native, as am I, so I knew that eventually, one of these days, I was going to have to get myself one of his books.

Author Biography

Thankfully, the long wait was mostly worth it in the end. As the story goes, a doctor by the name of John is celebrating his honeymoon when, out of the clear blue, the I've been looking forward to this one for awhile.

As the story goes, a doctor by the name of John is celebrating his honeymoon when, out of the clear blue, the world meets its latest threat: a wave of unknown entities that scientists are calling airwars, represented here as giant flying man-o-war creatures who sting their victims into submission before sucking them into their gullets. John, however, has a secret weapon to use against them.

He just has to figure it out first. Overall, it was a pretty good tale with a lot of political resonance and a few really awful lines of dialogue.

That said, it made for an enjoyable yarn if you're willing to listen to a the good doctor's political agenda along the way. Please don't judge this book by its cover. I know it doesn't look like much, and I have voiced my opinion of it to the publicist in the hopes that they will change it for future editions.

But for now, know that this is one that if you dismiss it because of the cover, you are missing out on a tremendous story. I have to honestly say had I come across this in the bookstore, I wouldn't have given it a second glance, but Victoria, Meisenheimer's publicist, was at ArmadilloCon this year and told me ab Please don't judge this book by its cover.

And from page one to the last, I was drawn into this book, the writing, the characters, all of it. What starts out as a government plot to keep those in power safe from the airwar attacks and leading the general population with an ineffective plan of 'leave them alone, they'll leave you alone' attitude, soon becomes not only a great depiction of our leading powers the world over, but a window into the way people of all ages and backgrounds would react to such events if they should happen in the future.

Genetic manipulation is a very real and potentially dangerous act with many unknown consequences. Not that there aren't benefits, but there is always the good and the bad side of things. Meisenheimer uses his extensive knowledge as a champion swimmer and his medical background to delve deeply into the world he creates bringing the characters and the threats to life.

His style of writing moves quickly, but doesn't lack in details which enable the reader to vividly see the events as they unfold. Keeping you on edge and just when you think you've got it figured out, he swings in with a twist and throws you right back to the edge of your seat. As I said in the beginning, I'm not a fan of the cover and it does not do the story between it justice, but if you can put aside the cover, the book is more than well worth your time to read it.
